There maybe no other town in the south burbs with a more diverse home inventory. The downtown is set rather low and the residential streets gain in elevation as you head east so the streets have a ton of character. There are quite a few historic homes in the streets bordering the downtown area. Those areas were neglected as the town expanded east however in the last 15 years or so they have begun to gentrify.
There are plenty of affordable starter homes for sale in Lockport both old and new. You can find affordable older homes near downtown but there are newer subdivisions nearer to the eastern border that have very affordable new homes and townhomes.
